In 2021, I felt stuck and uncertain about the future. Covid was in full swing, and my air conditioning business had come to a sudden halt. Like many others, I suddenly had a lot of free time on my hands. That’s when I discovered eCommerce—and from day one, I was hooked. I spent the next six months immersing myself in learning everything I could, even though I quickly realised there weren’t many truly helpful resources out there.

In October 2021, I launched my first eCommerce business. The early days were tough, but on March 5th, I celebrated a big milestone—my first 100 orders. Just a couple of weeks later, I changed my marketing strategy, and that’s when momentum really started to build. Over the next six months, sales skyrocketed, and I reached 1,000 orders in what felt like no time.

From there, the foundation was set, and opportunities began to open up. By March 2023, I had my biggest month yet—over $92,000 in gross sales. What started as a moment of uncertainty had turned into a thriving business and a completely new chapter in my life.

3 main points I believe helped me acheieve this.

1. Consistently analysing the market, products, and business

One of the most valuable habits I developed was making market analysis a regular practice, not just a “once in a while” activity. This meant constantly researching trends, watching competitors, understanding what customers were responding to, and testing new product ideas. At the beginning, trial and error played a massive role—there were ideas I was sure would work that completely flopped, and others I doubted that ended up performing surprisingly well. Each failure wasn’t a dead end, but rather a data point that showed me what to adjust, what to avoid, and what to double down on. Over time, these lessons became the foundation for better decision-making and a stronger business strategy.

2. Creating social media and website content that captures attention

In today’s crowded online space, it’s not enough to simply “have” a social media presence or a website—they need to stand out instantly. That meant developing eye-catching visuals, strong headlines, and content that sparks curiosity or emotion. I learned that the first few seconds a person lands on your page or sees your post are make-or-break. The goal is to hook their attention long enough for them to read, engage, or take the next step. This involved experimenting with different formats—videos, stories, behind-the-scenes content, and customer testimonials—to see what resonated most. The right content doesn’t just inform; it creates a connection and keeps people coming back.

3. Focusing more on people than the product

One of the biggest shifts in my mindset was realising that people don’t just buy a product—they buy into a feeling, a story, and a relationship. Building genuine connections with customers became more important than simply pushing features and benefits. That meant listening to their feedback, responding to messages, creating value beyond the sale, and making them feel seen and appreciated. When people feel understood and valued, they become loyal advocates who will return again and again—not because of a product’s specs, but because of the trust and connection they have with you.

Biggest Month - $92,850

The biggest month I had with my first ecommerce business was just under $93,000. This took just over a year to get to but was worth it.
